How agreement worksWhat do the crew roles mean?
- Skipper (captain)
- Commands the yacht, navigation and safety during the charter. The responsible captain.
- Skipper plus
- Experienced skipper with duties beyond basic command: short crew coaching, passage planning help, onboard organisation. Not housekeeping or hostess work.
- Co-skipper
- Second skipper on board – helps with navigation and steering, can take over the yacht.
- Sailing instructor
- Teaches sailing and safety to the crew during the trip.
- Delivery skipper
- Relocates the yacht between marinas (delivery), usually without a full charter crew week.
- Day skipper
- Skipper for part of the trip or a single day, not the full charter week.
- Hostess / steward
- Crew hospitality – meals, galley, guest comfort. Does not command the yacht unless the listing says otherwise.
